You have a used book room. Does this mean you buy used books?

No, we do not buy used books. We are hoping to phase out our used book room. We have plans to turn it into a children's book and toy room and expanding our new book offerings. The Book Barn in Niantic, CT does buy used books. We recommend contacting them.

Can you order me a book if you don't have it in stock?

Absolutely! Even if the book is out-of-print, we will gladly try to track down a copy for you.

You found an out-of-print book for me, but it cost more than the cover price! What gives?

Like any market, the book market is determined by conditions of supply and demand. If a book is out-of-print, it is harder to find -- lower supply. If this book is still sought after -- in demand -- the book dealers who have copies can ask as much as they think a customer will be willing to pay. Sometimes, this means that the book price has soared to above the original cover price. Before we start the search for a copy of your rare book, we may ask you how much you are willing to pay and in what condition you would like the book to be. These questions help us to narrow our search. We always try to confirm with you, the customer, a price range before ordering a rare book. If there is still sticker shock at the register, the book can be returned to the dealer.

Do I have to pay extra on a special order book?

You do not have to pay shipping or any other extra fees for special order books, unless they are out-of-print or rare. When you special order a book from us, we will discuss the availablity of your book. If you book is out-of-print or rare, the price we quote you will include all shipping costs.

Is this The Happy Carrot?

In July of 2005, Julie Kerop bought The Happy Carrot and renamed the shop The Turning Page. Since then, the store has changed quite a bit while retaining -- we hope -- the friendliness and charm of a small-town, independent bookstore.
